Godspell was the first pop-rock-gospel musical, predating Your Arms Too Short to Box with God and Jesus Christ Superstar, and in some ways this modest and loving work remains the best of them. Godspell sprang from the youth culture of the swinging sixties and offered its first audiences a contemporary approach to the worlds' most famous story. The staging uses pantomime, children's games, vaudeville, tap and soft shoe dancing with ballad, pop and rock songs such as "Day by Day," "Prepare Ye," "Turn Back O'Man" "By My Side", and "All for the Best".
